The Most Interesting Super Bowl LI Car Commercials

Car manufacturers usually splash some cash to make a big statement at the Super Bowl. This year was no different, but there were a few advertisements that should be noted. A new player has walked on the field. An American automotive giant has shifted its focus to becoming a mobility provider. And without even displaying their vehicle, one of the hottest automakers stole the show. CarCareCONNECT has compiled three of the most interesting car commercials from Super Bowl LI.

Alfa Romeo

Ever since Alfa Romeo ended production in the United States, there have been official and unofficial rumblings of the car brand returning stateside. At Super Bowl LI, all doubt vanished. Alfa Romeo made it clear it is back. Showcasing its sleek, powerful, bold vehicles in three separate commercials, the Italian auto maker teased an American audience with cars that exhibit pedigree, luxury and performance. With eight different models to be released by 2020, Alfa Romeo is out to win the race.

Ford

Once one of the pioneers in the American automotive scene, Ford is priming itself for this role again as more Americans look to sharing services instead of full ownership.

Ford reinforced its philosophical pivot away from being purely an automotive manufacturer to being a transportation solutions provider. Under its “Go Further” slogan, Ford wants to move people further with its creative solutions instead of otherwise being stuck. Ford’s shuttle service, Chariot as well as car and bike sharing programs in America’s urban centers.

Hyundai

In what may have been one of the most unexpected commercials, Hyundai put together a heartwarming ad that showed the connecting power of technology. Soldiers away from home were able to watch the game via a 360-degree projection on a panoramic screen. If that weren’t enough, the camera at the game was in the seat next to a family member so that they were able to experience the game together, as a family. Hyundai did all of this with never even showing a single vehicle. Whether or not this commercial will help to sell cars is to be determined, but it was a powerful commercial without a doubt.

Super Bowl commercials are truly a cultural phenomenon at this point, and we are waiting with pent-up excitement for what is next to come. Each year there seems to be a funnier, more emotional or bolder commercial – and this year was no different than the last. These are the commercials that our team at CarCareCONNECT can’t stop talking about. Is there a commercial that your team can’t get out of their heads?
