How to Use Groundhog Day (and Other Holidays) to Grow Your Auto Shop

Happy Groundhog Day!

For those of you who don’t know, today is the day that Punxsutawney Phil, the official weather forecasting groundhog of the United States, ventured out of his burrow to give us all insight on what weather to expect in the upcoming weeks. Phil saw his shadow this morning so there will be six more weeks of winter (if he hadn’t seen his shadow, there would have been an early spring).

Did you know that the first Groundhog Day was held in Punxsutawney, Pa., on Feb. 2, 1887? The holiday is based on the Christian tradition of Candlemas Day, a custom which was believed to predict the length of winter. German settlers in the United States decided to bring animals into the mix and started incorporating groundhogs into the tradition of Candlemas Day. Even though Groundhog Day serves as a historic and fun holiday, it isn’t always an accurate source of weather predictions. According to History.com, Punxsutawney Phil correctly predicts the seasonal change less than 40 percent of the time.

Use Groundhog Day to Your Advantage

Punxsutawney Phil isn’t the only one making predictions today! Here at CarCareCONNECT, we predict that if you utilize holidays and other special events in your website content and social media strategies, you can seriously increase traffic on your posts. By posting about hot topics while they’re still hot, your posts will get more clickthroughs and are likely to get shared on social media.

For example, if you posted a blog a week before Christmas about the best last minute gifts to get someone for the holidays, your article will be relevant to those who are searching for last minute Christmas present ideas. If you use the right keywords, your post is likely to show up on their search results and the reader is likely to click on your post.

Other Helpful Hints

Holidays aren’t the only time that you can boost your post views – you can also use topics like seasons, special events, or pop culture. Create a calendar for the year that includes these holidays, community events, etc. In the case of pop culture, a great idea is to keep track of what topics are trending on social media. If something is being talked about frequently online, posting on social media about that topic, while also incorporating your business into the post, is a great way to gain brand exposure.

Taking advantage of these opportunities is an excellent way to ensure that your social media posts will be as relevant as possible to viewers. By pushing out current, up-to-date content, your posts have a much better chance of being clicked and searched for, which will promote your brand and increase awareness for your business.
